Training and Simulation Group Manager, AFS-280, Federal Aviation Administration
Lee Abbott is the Training and Simulation Group Manager, AFS-280, within the Air Transportation Division. The Air Transportation Division is part of the Office of Safety Standards within the Flight Standards Service.
The Training and Simulation Group is responsible for regulations and policy recommendations governing all aspects of air carrier training and checking and includes the intial and continuing qualification of simulators.
Prior to his role as the AFS-280 Training and Simulation group manager, Lee has served as the Operations Group manager, AFS-220, Central Region Air Carrier branch manager, Kansas City Flight Standards District Office Acting Manager, Subject Matter Expert in the former AFS-250, on-demand/commuter air carrier branch, and he was an Aviation Safety Inspector in the Jackson, MS and Rochester, NY FSDOs. Prior to the FAA, Lee flew the BAE-146/RJ85 for Mesaba Airlines.
Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Political Science. He holds an AIrline Transport Pilot-AMEL, Commercial single engine, CFII/MEI flight instructor ratings.
Lee and his wife live in Mid-Missouri where they enjoy their angus cattle farm and four German Shorthaired Pointers.
